Chronograph Caldwell VelociRadar
Direct leverbaar
Shoot long distance and want to trust your projectile velocities to the decimal? Then the Caldwell VelociRadar velocity meter offers what you need: clean, repeatable measurements. While most velocity meters work with doppler radar, Caldwell opts for Chirp radar technology here. The difference lies in the transmission method — doppler sends radio waves in very short pulses, while Chirp uses pulse compression and transmits multiple frequencies within a single pulse. As a result, the device receives a stack of echoes, which produces a significantly sharper velocity image and gives you the purest results. Moreover, this device calculates velocity and ballistic coefficient over the entire shooting range, and determines muzzle velocity with an accuracy of 0.1%.
Recoil-activated trigger
Every shot it hears, the velocity meter converts into an accurate measurement — that's what the Chirp radar technology does. It becomes difficult with suppressed shots or shots in an enclosed space, which are sometimes not picked up or picked up irregularly. To handle that, the Caldwell VelociRadar comes with a recoil-activated sensor. Mount it on the rifle, and the meter uses the recoil as a signal to measure. This way you can easily determine the velocity of projectiles from a suppressed rifle.
Ease of use
Placement is simple: with the included ball tripod you simply place the VelociRadar next to your rifle. Setting up halfway down the range for an accurate measurement is not necessary, and that means you can stay with your settings while shooting. What the meter registers you read on the 2.8" color screen, which is easy to read, while the clear menu quickly guides you through the various options. If you connect the device to the Caldwell app, you can control everything from your smartphone and adjust settings remotely. There's plenty of storage space: 100 shooting sessions, each with 100 shots.
Housing
In the construction you can see that Caldwell focused on accuracy. The device has a substantial size with a relatively large antenna, and the housing is completely made of synthetic material in a restrained green color. Power is provided by a built-in, rechargeable Li-ion battery. A solid piece of technology, and in practice a deliberate choice for the shooter seeking maximum accuracy.
Note: outdoors the VelociRadar achieves its best performance. If you use it indoors, measurement deviations occur and the device becomes less accurate.
Note: air rifles with low energy do not work with the VelociRadar. The force released with them is too low to activate the velocity meter.
