Ukrainians believed that the Motanka doll carries the deep genetic code of the nation and is a symbol of our defiance. The patch is embroidered with a motanka doll in traditional Ukrainian clothing and holding a saber. She stands for Ukraine and defends her family, sending her damned enemies to hell. The main difference with the Motanka is the absence of a face. According to folk beliefs, it must be pure, or instead a cross is drawn, like the ancient symbol of the sun among the Slavs. The embroidered elements of the doll's clothes are also symbolic: the shirt represents the present, past and future, creating a kind of connection between generations. Ochipok and ribbons on the head emphasize femininity, beauty and girlish happiness. The designers imbued each thread of the patch with the most important desire of all Ukrainians.
