The Böker Plus Appalachian axes feature a Rhineland axe head forged from 1055 carbon steel—a specification reflecting above-average carbon content and material standards, even by the criteria of quality axes. The universally designed blade thickness performs equally well for felling and splitting work. The lower point of the 10.7 cm cutting edge serves as a hook for securing wood blocks. The steel is protected against corrosion by a durable lacquer finish. A versatile head weight of 600 g was selected for both axes in this series. The handle is crafted from premium American hickory, which substantially surpasses European ash in break elasticity and shock absorption tolerance. The handles are double-secured with a wooden wedge and steel ferrule. This is the smaller of the two Appalachian models, fitted with a 36 cm handle of select American hickory wood. Its compact dimensions make it well-suited for transport in or attachment to a rucksack. The shorter handle is particularly effective for extended single-handed work without fatigue—such as when preparing kindling for campfires.
