The Messerschmitt Bf 109, produced continuously since 1935 with approximately 33,000 examples built, stands as the most-produced fighter aircraft in aviation history. This legendary machine represented a watershed moment in the 1930s: a low-wing monoplane fighter with enclosed cockpit, retractable landing gear, and all-metal construction. These innovations enabled pilots to achieve higher speeds and tighter turning radius—critical advantages in aerial combat. The Bf 109 carried formidable armament: two MG FF 20 mm cannons in the wings and two MG 17 7.92 mm machine guns mounted directly ahead of the pilot, synchronized to fire through the propeller arc of the 1,000 hp Daimler V12 engine. The steel for this Damascus project originates from a Bf 109 E-series fighter shot down in 1940 above Ashford, Kent by an RAF Supermarine Spitfire. Böker sourced two authentic components: the armored backplate from the pilot's seat and the propeller shaft bearing tube. Master bladesmith Chad Nichols forged this historical steel into an 80-layer Damascus pattern with exceptional edge retention. The design incorporates numerous references to the original aircraft: the opening along the spine of the blade mirrors the pilot's canopy profile, the spine geometry reflects the corrugated fuselage skin surrounding the MG 17 installation, and a flipper detail references the retractable landing gear. The handle, machined from Fatcarbon Materials Toxic Storm carbon fiber in green, black, and yellow, replicates the Bf 109's characteristic camouflage scheme with its gray-green base and yellow nose cowl. The blade employs a titanium Framelock with hardened steel contact surfaces and a right-side tip-up carry clip. Includes premium presentation case and certificate of authenticity.
